BookHeart2Though its origins are shrouded in mystery, August 9th is National Book Lover’s Day! Books play such an important part in our world, allowing us to visit exotic lands, travel back in time, and experience life through someone else’s eyes, and we get all of this for free through our local library.

According to a report released last year by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, in 2011, 72% of Americans read at least one print book, while 16% read at least one e-book. What’s hot on America’s reading list this summer? According to the New York Times best sellers list, currently the top 10 fiction and nonfiction books are:

The Cuckoo’s Calling, by Robert Galbraith

The English Girl, by Daniel Silva

   First Sight, by Danielle Steel

   Inferno, by Dan Brown

   Hunting Eve, by Iris Johansen

   This Town, by Mark Leibovich

   Zealot, by Reza Aslan

Proof of Heaven, by Eben Alexander

Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg with Nell Scovell

Happy, Happy, Happy, by Phil Robertson with Mark Schlabach

Many of these titles can be found in our Library Catalog, or requested through ConnectNY. Or browse our current offerings in our Popular Fiction & Non-fiction Collection.

No matter your preferred genre, take time next Friday to find a quiet corner and curl up with a book (or your Kindle!), and lose yourself in the words of your favorite author; after all, reading is also good for your health!
