In July 2011, demolition began on the Scribner Library as the first step in a multi-year, building-wide renovation project. However, there will continue to be access to the bound journals on the ground floor and the photocopiers have been moved to the 1st floor.
What's in it for you?
- Bringing the Information Technology Department to a central location on the campus will enable the public service areas of IT (ie. Media Services, GIS, and Instructional Technologies) to both expand and improve their service presence on the campus.
- Students and faculty will have access to the Reference Desk, Writing Center, ESL office, GIS Lab, IT Help Desk, and Media Services, and, of course, the library’s traditional collections and services, in one location. These resources will maximize the ability to provide students with expert assistance in written and multi-media projects and assignments. For faculty, the Instructional Technologies Center situated in close proximity to the Eric Weller Room, will create a digitally and information-rich environment for curricular experimentation and development.
- The two new electronic classrooms will also be a central location for experimental and cutting edge teaching tools and technologies, a place where technologists can support learning, faculty innovation and encourage risk taking. Furthermore, these rooms will be open and available for student use in the evening and on weekends when they are not used as classrooms.
- The addition of 250 seats, including 12 new individual study carrels as well as 13 new group study rooms, organized using an electronic scheduling system, will allow the library to enhance its role as the preferred study/research location for students on campus.
- A Media Viewing Room was requested by faculty in two different focus groups and will provide a space for the teaching and collective examination of academic, commercial, and student created videos.
- An expanded and improved Media Services presence for students creating multimedia projects will be part of the first phase of remodeling.
We will continue to post updates on our blog!
We apologize for any inconvenience this work might cause, and if you have any questions about the building project, please stop by the Library.
