In Honor of Phyllis A. Roth

RothOn Saturday, May 5th, a memorial service was held at Skidmore for Phyllis A. Roth, who recently passed away from complications from pancreatic cancer. Roth wore many hats at Skidmore - including Dean of the Faculty and Acting President - and was a staunch supporter of the Scribner Library. When she returned to teaching full-time after stepping down from the Dean's office, she often worked closely with the Library’s Special Collections Department in her course work.  Three of these classes produced exhibits using the collection’s rare books and ephemera. Most notable among these efforts were two library exhibitions that showcased a gift from alumnus Christopher Giancarlo ’81 and his wife Regina: a collection of vampire books and materials donated in Roth’s name.

Filmakers Library Online

FLONFilmakers Library Online provides award winning documentaries independent films with relevance across the curriculum: race and gender studies, human rights, globalization and global studies, multiculturalism, international relations, criminal justice, the environment, bioethics, health, political science and current events, psychology, arts, literature, and more. It presents points of view and historical and current experiences from diverse cultures and traditions worldwide. This release now provides 1,017 titles, equaling approximately 803 hours.

Among the hundreds of notable independent film makers worldwide whose works make up Filmakers Library Online are Christine Choy, Roger Weisberg, Josh Aronson, David Bradbury, Judith Gleason, Jeremy Levine & Landon Van Soest, Aaron Matthews, Jeffrey O'Connor, Tana Ross, and Taggart Siegel.

Trial: Classical Music in Video

ClassicalMusicInVideo

Classical Music in Video will be the definitive online collection for the study of classical music in video format.  At completion it will contain 1,000 hours of classical music performances and master classes captured on video - approximately 1,500 performances in all. The collection will contain performances of all forms of classical music, including major orchestral performances by leading orchestras, plus chamber music, oratorio, and solo performances, along with master classes and interviews with master teachers from around the world.

Scope

Coverage of musical time periods spans Medieval to the 21st century, and performances cover historical recordings from the 1950s up to the most current recordings today.
